Hi There,

My son just turned 5 months old last week and the HV suggested starting him on solids due to dropping off the 50th percentile line and not being to interested in his bottles. He is showing signs of wanting food, moving his tongue back and watching us eat. I've started him on a bit of cereal and he eats a little, not a lot at all. My question is, in the states (where my oldest ds was weaned) that had loads of jar food of just single foods. What I mean is only carrots or sweet potatoes or pears and so on so you could try each food out. All I have found here for Jax is carrots with potatoes and sweet potatoes with chicken or potatoes. I am specifically looking for organic but I have tried a large waitrose, boots and tesco. Do any stores sell this or do most mums in England make there own?

Thanks,

Katie

I think most people here do tend to make their own - and I didn't wean onto jars or purees so am not really sure what is out there. I know the plum baby range is very popular (organic) but having just had a look at their website I see your point, they are all mixtures (and weird ones at that!) There is no need to wean your baby onto one thing at a time though, unless you have a family history of allergies. If you don't expect him to be allergic to foods, just go for it ;) To be honest you could just give him mash rather than very smooth purees anyway - the smooth stuff is a hangup from the days people weaned at 3 or 4 months or even earlier - maybe just mash a banana or an avocado or something else nice and soft with a fork.
Sorry to not be very helpful :(

Hi

Hipp used to do a couple of these, I seem to recall. But I have just checked their website and they don't seem to anymore!

It doesn't take long to whizz up some carrots. Though to be frank with my younger 2, once I wasn't that careful about single flavours thing, LOL!

Also the plum baby mentioned are all mixes, but they do actually taste of what has gone into them. Quite a rarity on the baby food market!

I agree with the previous suggestions of making your own, one organic carrot will be cheaper than buying a jar.
