hi our april board is all gearing up to weaning and after a disasterous time with my last baby when weaning on purees i don't want to go down that route and have decided on BLW. i've read gill's book (not all yet) and have a couple of questions about general things from people who had done BLW.

it says that at first when you introduce food they're just finding out about it and put it to their mouths so in general they don't really eat until the 8 to 10 month mark. is this the case? and that breastfeeds are still very much in demand.

has anyone used blw when their babies go to day nursery? if so, what's the nursery thought?

hi nikki

yes, ime babies actually eat very little for ages.  although my experience is limited to one as i don't know anyone else who is doing it...!  dd loves tasting everything, takes in a little bit, then gives and ear-bleeding screech to show she's finished!  she likes bf afterwards...and just as much as before (although i *think* she is starting to reduce feeds...).

we haven't started nursery yet, but they are happy to follow blw.  i have started giving dd water in the hope that she will learn to use a cup and maybe take ebm while there (she's a bottle refuser...) but i'm just going to see how it goes.

good luck - blw is great fun, as long as you can stay relaxed about what he is or isn't eating.

hi

it's going well. such a freedom thing. no more purees to make or heat or take out, just the food we eat. matthew's doing really well and is eating most things we put down in front of him. so exciting doing the poo watch now, but smelly lol.

Message: Anecdotally, lots of the blw babies on here don't really get going until aboit 9-10 months; this was definitely the case for my babies (this was the case for DD1 even though I tried to spoon in purees!) It seems to be even more so for those who are bf, for whatever reason.
