Hi all,

Do you think they should bring back the nit nurse? If it was voluntary that your child saw one would you object? Do you see it as a violation or humiliation to children or do you think they should never have stopped them in the first place?

Message: I think there's no harm, not all parents know what to look for so it would be good if they brought them back. When I worked in nurseries we could look for nits in children's hair but not 'root' through the hair like they used to when I was a kid, probably part of child protection but how ridiculous!

Hiya

If it came back I wouldn't object but I think there are plenty of leaflets out there telling you what to look for and how to check for them.

I do think however that most people don't read.  I work in a chemist and can see how many myths people believe about headlice.  If people read the info given out then they would be able to do it without needing a nurse in the school.

Message: I think the problem is there are too many parents that can't be bothered. When DD1 was in primary school it was always the same children with nits, the scruffy ones usually. I think half of the nit problem is down to lazy parents who don't check their children frequently enough.

HIya

HOw do you know it was the scruffy kids?  Does the school actually tell you who has them?  Thats disgusting if they do.  At dd's school they send out reminders to all the parents saying please check your childs head but they don't say that its because "Robert" has them or whatever.

From working in a chemist I can honestly say its all not all scruffy people who have them and from my training its not just scruffy people who have them first.  Its not a sign of poor hygiene or dirty hair.
