Hi all
I'm sitting here with steam coming out of my ears at the mo and wishing we'd never got back into the Education system!
As you may recall when our dd enrolled at our local sixth Form college we made enquiries about her sitting the Higher Tier Exams. She duly went and sat some tests in June and everyone smiled nicely and said that should be no problem. Now , as it comes to the end of the first half term , we have been told that she can only sit Foundation Tier in Science but can still (and will most likely) get a B Grade. Has anyone else heard of this? I thought the whole issue with the Foundation Tier was that you can only get a C grade at most?
As for the Maths Dept , after emailing them for the third time 3 WEEKS ago asking for some clarification this is the reply i got this morning!

Your e-mail has been forwarded to me, as I am the Team Leader for GCSE Mathematics.
I apologise for not replying earlier: I did in fact write this e-mail last week, but I have just discovered it was not sent - I recall that the college e-mail system broke down last week, just as I was about to send the e-mail!
I have checked Charlotte's test results and she has done very well on the Level 1 test. On the Level 2 test she achieved good results, but spent a very long time on the test, and did not, in fact, finish the final section.
The computer that she was using crashed half way through and she had to start again and she was told by the head of Maths that she'd done enough so that was why she didn't finish it.....arrrgghhh!!
Charlotte has been entered for the Foundation Tier module 3 exam on November 13th. As she has not sat any GCSE examinations yet, we feel it is in her best interests to establish a firm foundation and achieve a good result in this first examination. Also, this is the examination that she has been preparing for in her lessons. (As you may remember, my colleague made it clear to you in July that we could not provide tuition for the Higher Tier topics in college, as the GCSE Mathematics course is primarily a re-sit course for those who have not yet achieved a Grade C pass.)
When we receive the results of the November examination, in January, we will be in a better position to make a recommendation as to whether Charlotte should take Module 3 at Higher Tier in March.
We will enter her for Foundation Tier Module 1 (Data Handling) in March, with our other students. Once we have received the results of these examinations, we will then be better informed to decide whether she would be successful if we entered her for the Higher Tier examination in Module 5, the terminal examination.
Please contact me if you feel you need further information.
What has really made me furious is that if they are now looking for ways out of putting her in for the Higher Tier they have taken so long it has virtually scuppered her chances of enrolling on the course elsewhere!
I am so angry with them that i have sent a very snotty reply reminding them about the issues with the computer and also that we were promised a decision in June that never materialised. I emailed them before she started in Sept and again 3weeks ago and am only now getting any reply!
Ok rant over.......oh the joys of bureaucracy!
