My 6 year old son caught conjunctivitis and although the nurse said to use eye drops until it had gone, she estimated 2 days and then another 2 days to ensure the infection was cleared, he ended up having them for a fortnight and finishing the bottle because it didn't clear up very quickly.
His 8 yr old sister caught it but hers, with eyedrops, was gone within 5 days. My son ended up on the drops for another week.
My sons eyes have been perfectly clear for at least 5 days and low and behold, back to school this morning and his eye was red. When I collected him both eyes are red and his teacher said he had been itching them all day. I still have the last lot of drops so have started them up again.
Is this usual for it to come and go so frequently?
If so then I will deal with it but I'm a little worried it may be something more or that he may even have an allergy to the antibiotic eye drops - he does have an allergy to creams such as E45 and used to come out in a rash when he was ill when he was a baby/toddler.
He has a cold too at the mo and I think its the constant wiping of the nose with his hand that isn't helping!
