Hi again

I'm redoing my school website at the moment and wondered which bits of your school's websites you use the most and you like about them.  I've asked the parents at my school already but as we are so small I wondered if you wouldn't mind sharing what you thought about your websites.

thanks

Tracey

Hiya,

My children are in 2 different schools. 1 is age 4-7, the other 4-11.

I love the websites and always on there! Mostly i use the calender (term dates plus other dates - ie friends occassion dates) and also like it for copies of letters - esp newsletter. They are both very easy to use. The older school adds photos and news on which is great to see. Both have staff pics which is good esp once children get older and you dont necessarily see teachers all the time.

What i would like to see more is the after school clubs details, its the only thing thats missing.

This is the website for the school my kids go to www.froebelian.com/

I mostly use the school calendar and This Week page to see what's happening. I also check the school menu to see what they're eating for lunch so that i can plan dinner accordingly.

I know that on my niece and nephew's school website there's loads more info like homework for each class, details of house points etc. I'd find that useful too and am going to suggest it when our school update their website leter this year.

DD's school used to have a really good website, before a lot of schools here had anything at all.  It had archives, histories from former pupils, photos form the past  (1950's),  history of the area over the last 100 years etc but it got too difficult to maintain and a lot of it was out of date (eg after school clubs from three years earlier) so now they are in the process of transferring it to the usual council one so it is unavailable.

What I miss it for is checking term dates when I'm at work eventhough we do have a print out and seeing who is the Pupil of the week.  I also loved looking at displays of chldren's work, book reviews etc  and in particular the children's drawings of teachers and parent council members etc!  Any photos of children that are on it are sideways or in disguise and until recently only nicknames were used.  Now first names are used.

The newsletters were there and an introductory page updated every week or two telling us about important or interesting things.  I think that was the most valuable page and sets the right tone - not too formal.  Also if it is updated frequently, there is reason to go on regularly.  There is also a page with an introduction by the Head Teacher and a drawing of her.  There was also a kids puzzle page and a quiz at Christmas.  I've no idea if all these things will remain.     The PTA and Parent Council both had pages.

What sometimes annoyed me about it was that it, and the newsletter, and pieces of paper from school sometimes contained conflicting information so try and avoid that LOL. (For example on one occasion  - school will finish before the holidays at 1.00, 1.30, 2.00 respectively!)

Hi Tracey!

My daughter's school's website is probably the worst thing about the school. So rarely updated they may as well not bother having one. Sad but true.
