I've just arranged for Frank (DS1) to start pre-school in the village in January.  He was due to start in September but I couldn't face him being in 'education' for so much of the week.  He goes to nursery 3 days so gets his pre-school stuff there; he's only going to the village pre-school for the social element as he will go to the village school.  This stupidly feels like a massive step and my little boy is growning up!  I've rearranged my teaching days so that I can take him the first time.  Goodness knows what I'm going to be like when he starts School but at least thats 18 months away!

Hi Tracey,

It's a huge step, isn't it? My two never went to nursery school as the school I'd chosen didn't have one attached, but I felt anxious with both of them. I think we mummies are made that way!

Take comfort from the fact that in terms of knowledge, support and understanding he couldn't have a better mother to guide him through his first steps into formal education!

Hi Tracey

I was in tears when DD started nursery too.  I felt as if she was leaving home forever and would no longer be under my influence so would do lots of things that I didn't like!  LOL Of course that was rubbish!  She had fun, was sociable, made friends,  improved her language (although her accent changed a bit to be more like everyone elses's!) and interacted well with teachers, key workers and children.

We decided that DH would take her as he normally looked after her during the day, and I wouldn't take a day off.  She is a mummy's girl so it would have been much harder for her to go on the first day if I was about.

I found starting school less emotional and more  of an adventure but I did take a day off work that day and both of us took her.  Now I'm thinking starting secondary school in 2.5 years is going to be the worst.
