OMG no no no!!  Why would anyone think it's ok for an 8yr old to have a fake tan?!  They're not necessary for anyone IMO but at least leave it until they are adult enough to make their own decision.

I'm currently pregnant with my second (have one DS) & it's posts like yours that make me cross my fingers for another boy lol.  Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but I do honestly think that as well as being completely unnecessary for a child of that age it would also look ridiculous!

Message: Exactly, since I posted this my dd asked me what a fake tan is! I said it is when we put gunk on our skin to make us look like we have been sunburnt. She wasn't impressed. I showed her today on the way home from school, as we were passing some high school girls with their orange legs lol! Dd again wasn't impressed so I guess I wont be nagged for that for a while, thank goodness!

Hi

I agree that 8 yrs old is way too young for any beauty routine except moisturiser. The question is how old/young is OK?

If we say 'when they are old enough to decide for themsleves' then I think at 8 they can decide, they just dont have very good judgement at that age.

And what about ear piercing? hair straightening? or regularly wearing make-up? or a tatoo?

My DD is 4.5. The only thing she really wants at the moment is make-up and a squirt of perfume. I rarely wear either myself so I dont know where she got that from. I conceed and let her have lipstick occasionally, I dont see the harm in it. Some seem to think this is wrong of me.

I have no idea how I am going to deal with this as my dd gets older, I just have to hope she keeps her requests simple!

I really dislike stuff like that.

Fake tan is just crazy, eve for teens!

DD1 has been invited to several parties where they have been putting make up and nail varnish on the little girls - these are 4th and 5th Birthdays!

I let my DD have nail varnish at the party a couple of weeks ago, but strictly no make up. There's a number of reasons I diagree with it. 1) Far too young imo and make up on litttle girls just looks garish imo. 2) I dislike the thought of the chemicals on my little girl's skin. 3) environmental factor and the fact that a lot of cheaper cosmetics have been tested on animals, (or ingredients have), which I'm completely opposed to.

DD1 has started pestering for her ears pierced... I don't mind too much but her dad is dead against it. She also pesters for wearing make up and nail varnish, but only when she sees her friends with it on, like at the party. I keep saying no and putting up with the strops. The peer 'pressure' sort of annoys me... if other mums didnt happily let their 4 and 5yr olds cover themselves in make up I wouldn't have the stress!

Mums of boys have it soooooo easy! LOL.

Call me old fashioned but that is just WRONG WRONG WRONG!

Sounds like that young girl Brogan who was in the paper the other day wanting to be a glamour girl at 11!

Kids grow up too quick these days, there is no innocence anymore. I think kids need to be more streetwise in this day and age but there are some things that should remain a mystery.

My DD is 5 going on 15 but if she asked for a spray tan, she wouldn't get one!
