Hi there,

Well the good news is that I got a letter from the Hosp ADHD unit...saying I had been referred by the GP and asking if I WANTED AN APPOINTMENT!  No I was just messing around!!!  Good grief I have heard it all now.

Hope you have had a better day than us, my ds hasnt been great at school today, teacher says he is watching her to see if she is watching before he misbehaves and to see if she will react.  I am not sure if she is exagerating this or not, seems to be a lot of effort involved.  (But then again anything is poss with ADHD)  And they have stopped the token system which they just started last week - encouraging him to 'behave' for short periods of time and get a token which he can 'spend' on himself or the class.  he was really pleased with himself when he first started getting them but last 3 days he has said they have 'forgotten to give him them'.  When I asked teacher today she said that because he was actually asking her for them they have stopped them this week and wil try again next week.  But thats just him, he wants to be the best at everything, he is desperate to get the tokens so he can get marbles for the class to use for 'golden time'.  I know it isnt easy when he frequently asks for things he knows he aint going to get but I do think they have given up a bit quickly.  Have p/t meeting in a fortnight and have asked for extra time (dp is taking day off to go to it too)  DP thinks that they need to stretch him a bit more, that he could be getting bored.  They have 4 classes in one room and thats a wide variety of stuff to teach, little time to spend on individuals although they have classroom assistant at times.  He loves reading and is much better at maths this year, seems to have 'got it'.  They give a page of multiplication probs per week and he has them done the first night.  Maybe we need to stretch him a bit more and do more work at home...find the time somewhere!  Anyway sorry to ramble on, been a bit of a drain on the emotions today.  Even though you dont really care what anyone thinks, when he is acting up in front of some of the other mums and dads (at the park after school) I do get a bit stressed.  Will just have to toughen myself up and take it in my stride.  Have read lots of posts not only here but other sites like Mumzone and my lad seems to be  very mild at the minute compared with what some mums have to cope with. (Although challenging enough for me thanks very much!) It could all change as he gets older I suppose!  Anyway I am reading some great books about ADHD and how to manage it and even the Behaviour Therapist has taken a note of one which she hasnt seen before and is going to get one for herself so dont presume they have all the answers!  I have researched this like mad and have taken lots of notes, and have started on charts, routines etc to try to kick this things ass:-}  Let me know what your little un is like and how you cope.  You may have things which will work with mine and vica versa.

Have a great weekend.
