Hi. I'm just wondering how everyone now their DD/Ds's have been away for a couple of months. DD2 is really enjoying her course, well seems to be from what she has said. I actually seem to have much better conversations with her now she's away, then I did when she was home. She has a reading week next week and doesn't have to go into uni so she is coming home for a few days. I'm really looking forward to seeing her again.

Hi Wenndy,

Hope your week with DD2 went well.

I had a very shaky start with DS2. . Took him to uni at the end of September. He was like a rabbit in the headlights. It was all to much for him and I felt dreadful when we left him. I cried all the way home. He spent the following week texting and phoning telling me how miserable he was. It took all my effort not to tell him to get the next train home!

Anyway, suddenly the situation changed. He started joining groups and getting around meeting people. He is now thoroughly enjoying himself. So much so, he doesn't plan to come home until Christmas.

DS1, who also started uni this year, settled in without any bother and he too has no plans to come home before Christmas.

I don't really mind that, so long as they both keep in touch which they are doing. Hubby and I plan to go and see DS1 in a fortnight and DS2 (who is a lot further away) at the end of November. Looking forward to that.

Hi Jaykay. Sorry I've taken so long to reply. The week with DD2 went well. She went out with her friends about 3 times but did also spend time with us. She aslo did some uni work and got it handed in on time. Her term finishes on 11th Decemberso she will probably come home the week after that. Her birthday is on the 9th so she is going to be away for her birthday for the first time in her life. That will be strange.

Have you seen your sons yet?

Hi Wenndy,

Went to see DS1 this weekend (the one that is closest to home). Had a great day with him. Stocked up his larder and took him out and fed him!

This was the first time I had seen him since he left for uni. It was great to see him. His confidence has soared which is fantastic. So grown up. He is enjoying his course and he has no plans to come home til Christmas. He also finishes on 11 December.

Off to see DS2 in a couple of weeks time and will be repeating the feeding and stocking up procedure. We are going for the weekend as it is a bit too far to make it there and back in a day. He too seems to be settled and will not be home til Christmas. He finishes on  18 December.

I still miss them as I'm sure you do too, but I wouldn't want it any other way. You have to let them go and make their own way in the big wide world don't you? You'll probably find that DD2 will think nothing of celebrating her birthday away from home. It's us parents that find it difficult to adjust!

Not long to Christmas.

Jaykay
