Hello all

Am in need of a bit of advice, and hoping someone can push me in the right direction.

Basically, my DS (3) goes to a childminders 2 full days a week (between 9 & 5.30) and i'm due our 2nd baby in March.

Now if i plan to take the 6 months maternity leave, which im entitled to, that takes me to Setember 2010 when my DS starts Primary School. Do i take DS out of the childminders whilst on Maternity Leave to save some money (which would be really helpful) but leave him there for a month or so after the baby is born to we can get a routine established?

Or would you keep him going to keep his routine in place?

Just seems silly to be wasting money on childcare when i'll be at home anyway.

Actually,. think i've answered this question myself, but would still be interedted in what others think.

TIA

Hi,

I kept ds1 in nursery after I had ds2 but reduced his days.  This meant we saved a bit of money on the childcare but ds1 had some continuity in his routines - he already had so much to get used to with ds2 coming into his life that I wanted some things to stay the same for him.  He *loves* his nursery and although he loves being at home too I found I really needed some time to spend with ds2 on his own so this worked out the best for all of us.

Hi,

I wouldn't take him out of his childminders completely as I think this could lead to him resenting the baby especially if it is something he enjoys. Also, you won't realise it till you have had the kid how much 'me' time you could do with once the baby is born. Maybe cut down his hours to 2 half days but then at least you will get some free time without having to take 2 kids with you.

(PS maybe I'm a horrible mum, but my DD 3.5 is in nursery every day till 3.30pm even on the days I finish work earlier firstly coz I need some me time and secondly I think it is better for her to have the same routine every day rather than not knowing what time I am going to pick her up ie before or after lunch.)
