Just tried to book my Mum to have a flu jab and thought there would be someone able to come out to her at home to do it as she is still recovering from breaking her hip about a month ago.

Apparently they won't be able to do these until December and even that isn't certain. They were very casual about adding her name to the list in the book with absolutely no ideas as to when it will actually be done or even if it will be done at all.

I find this staggering considering she is elderly and with the swine flu expected to be worse over the winter. They start telling us to have this done in September and yet when they have to do something suddenly it's not all that important really and may or may not get done but possibly December !?!?!?!?!

So much for caring for carers or even their own patients hey ?
And so much for how important they really think it is to have these jabs done at all.

I'm disgusted with them.

Cheers

Hi Bllue,
I definitely got the feeling they couldn't be bothered or that they knew it wasn't going to happen but couldn't say so and to fob me off said it had been added to the book but couldn't say for sure when anyone might contact me.

So as I had to write to the doctor anyway about our local dial a ride bus who need confirmation that Mum cannot use public transport, I told her about my attempts at booking a flu jab and said that we had been promised a district nurse when Mum was in hospital so could this be arranged so that Mum can have her flu jab and not have to wait until December.

I hope they'll be aware that I have now made this official by putting it in writing and it having a date so that it would or could be used as evidence of their malpractice if necessary and thus do something now to prevent things getting worse.

I can't take Mum myself because my car is too low for her to get in and out of with her still recovering from her half hip replacement. That's why I'm in the process of trying to arrange the dial a ride bus service but they won't come out to collect someone unless they have a letter from Mum's doctor to confirm she can't use public transport.

I've had mine done and it couldn't have been faster. I couldn't get my pneumonia one done as they don't do them at the same time as it produces symptoms if done together but she said that it would be a one off jab and it can be done at any time of the year. My doctor is a different surgery to my Mum.

Hope you're recovering well yourself and growing stronger.

Hugs
