Do you reckon having a best friend is a girlie thing?

Is it important to have one very trusted companion?

Or do you prefer to have a circle of close friends rather than just the one best mate?

I don't have a 'best friend', but I do have a cirlce of close friends who I tend to call on in need and of course when I need to have some serious fun! I kind of consider the best friend thing to be quite girlie, but then of course there's the question of having a best man at the wedding so perhaps traditionally it isn't really a girlie notion?

Do you have a best friend in real life? I have a few that I would consider to be closer than others but don't have one that stnads out from the rest. They all have different qualities.

Do you reckon having a best friend is a girlie thing? Hmmmm I'd say more of a girl thing but some blokes do have one particular person they are close to.

Is it important to have one very trusted companion? I'd say it's important to have at least one trusted companion, I don't trust one person for everything but have a couple of people I trust on various things. DP and my nan are my most trusted but DS is very good too.

Or do you prefer to have a circle of close friends rather than just the one best mate? I've learnt through experience you can't trust one person 100% and shouldn't confide all to anyone so I think a circle of close friends is better.

Hi,

I don't have a best friend irl, unless you count DH. Having, or wanting to have, a best friend is common to men and women I think. Most of my male friends have a best friend and they're all very close which is really nice to see. I would rather have a circle of friends than just one person tbh. It's just the way I am, I'm quite sociable and it's nice to not have to pin everything just on the one person - spread the love around :-)

Hello flashlass,

Interesting topic!

I do have a best friend in real life, we have been best friends a long time (23 years) but (and it pains me to realise this) if i met her now for the first time i'm not sure if we would be friends. She is so very bossy and moody, always has been although i was only 6 when i first met her so it didnt occur to me then that having a moody friend can be rather hard work at times! On the plus side, she is loyal and would defend me to the hilt, she knows me better than i know myself and she is extremely trustworthy. I consider her my best friend because we have known each other so long and because she knows me so well. But we dont click like i have done with other friends i've made (and lost contact with)

I dont think a best friend is a girlie thing, my df has a best friend, as have my brothers and other men that i know

I think its important to have someone in your life whom you can trust, i trust my best friend, my fiancee and my sister. 3 people may seem a small amount, but i find it hard to trust so its a big deal to me

Before i moved to Cheltenham i had a wonderful circle of friends consisting of both male and females, we  all had such fun and saw each other very day, it was a real tight circle and we had alot of common interests. My best friend was not part of that group however as i felt she wouldnt have had alot in common with them

You've certainly provided food for thought! Sorry to ramble on!

Cool to have a best friend who you've known since you were 6. I moved schools loads as a kid so didn't have the continuity to maintain friendships like that, in a way I kind of feel I missed out. Although moving schools got me used to making friends very quickly, which is something I'm pretty confident about as an adult!

Must be the blokes I know then as none have a best friends!

It is soooo important to have close friends who you can trust, trust is such a fragile thing and many people find trusting others very difficult. I'm the opposite, I've been told I shouldn't rush in with trusting people!
