Message: Since my younger sister was about 3 she's always been the favourite, we are now adults, both married with children , my mum always visits my sister helps her with her children, they go out shopping and for lunch together,my mum visited me about once a year at most, i tried to sort things out two years ago but she hasn't visited me or my children since, she doesn't ask after them either or keep in touch. About two weeks ago i was shopping with my son, she didn't even talk to me,just nodded her head at me, it's 21 months now since she last visited me, and it hurts me inside so much knowing she sees my sister every week and buys her children things.
I've made efforts to try get a relationship going again, it doesn't work, it eats away at me all the time, and then it makes me feel insecure with my own life as i get so scared of loosing my husband somehow, and ending up with nobody and nothing. How do i stop letting it upset me so much and stop my insecurities?

Hi Sara

I had problems similar to this with my mother...

The way I handled it was I approached my mother and asked if we could meet (somewhere neutral) and talk through things and try and resolve our difficulties..she agreed and seemed to want to, but after about half an hour I realised it was a waste of time..I realised my mother had issues that were hers and nothing to do with me, and to enable me to move on and to stop beating myself up of why, I drew a line and have not spoken to her since...it's not been an easy ride and the decision wasn't taken lightly, but it's the best thing I ever did and I don't regret it one bit...

I didn't have children and I know it must be difficult if you do, but whatever her problem is it is hers and you have done nothing wrong..

Hope your find a way to resolve it, what does your sister think, I have a "favoured" sister to although I do have a good relationship with her but she fully understands and supports my actions..

Take Care

Jules
