Last week the Law Commission proposed that inheritance laws should be changed to not penalise unmarried couples and reflect the ‘modern family’ Unmarried couples currently do not receive automatic inheritance rights to their partner's wealth, regardless of the length of their relationship. The proposal states that couples who have been together for more than five years, or who have children together, should be treated as if they are married if one partner dies without a will. If you or someone you know has been adversely affected as a result of the current inheritance laws please contact Caroline Drewniak at carolinedrewniak@hotmail.com. We are looking for a suitable case study and payment is a possibility.
