Hi,
Just thought I would pop on here and give an update to where we are today.
When I first told my story he was still in Critical Care, shortly afterwards he moved up onto the ward where he remained for 8 weeks. After 6 weeks he was in a wheelchair going out and about for short periods and then two weeks ago on Friday we came home to our new quarter for 10 days. Today he left for Headley Court.
We've had a few battles on our hands including rushing through allocating and moving into a quarter within 2 weeks as well as both of us crashing emotionally a few times. He's fought off MRSA and a few other infections as well as learnt to come to terms with and deal with the realities of his injuries. Along the journey I've made some fantastic friends and met some wonderful people. I also want to say that the support i've had from AFF, ABF and SSAFA has been outstanding, SSAFA are an amazing charity who provided me with a home in Norton House for 5 weeks and I will be doing a lot of fundraising for a lot of charities from now on.
This really has been an incredible journey and it really does change your perspective on everything.
The last 12 weeks have been a whirlwind of emotions that I wouldn't wish on anybody but the reassurance is that if you do get that dreaded knock on the door, then you couldn't be looked after better and the care you Loved One recieves is the best in the world :)
I hope everyone who's family member is deployed at the moment or in the future have safe, rewarding tours.
