Hi everybody,

I went to Bulgaria with Whizzair..wen i got to my destination i found that my suitcase had been broken into and some money got stolen, yes i know people say you should never put money in there but being a frequent traveler and this has never ever happen to me just put some extra money just in case and it was padlocked so thought it would be safe.  I came back and tried to claim from Whizzair and they are claiming that there T&C state the are not responsible for jelwellry, money, valuable etc in the luggage...i checked all the documents i had prior to travelling and could not see that anywhere surely they should make you aware of this before travelling right ?  anyways if i cannot claim for the money how abt the fact my suitcase zip slider was cut with pliers for cannot use it for future travels as there is no place for the padlock to go through, also i spent 5 days of my 7 day holiday at the police station trying to get the police report.

I hate the fact that someone had ruffled gone through my personal belongings and it will always make me suspicious  everytime i now go on holiday.  They should really have that luggage wrap thing in london which they have at airport when you return from foreign countries i would definitely use that. On my return so many people were having that done i guess some countries are known for that hehehe.

I will be complaining to them and maybe take it up further with the Ombudsman.

If there are specific countries you have been to or known for it please let me know : o )

has anyone had a similar experience ?

I am not sure what my rights are in this case and where i can go for more help.

any advice ?

thanks

KAY

Hiya,

I'm sorry to hear about that - it sounds awful! Really not what you want to happen on what's supposed to be an enjoyable relaxing holiday.

Unfortunately you're right about the wrapping service that you find everywhere in eastern Europe/Russia. It is one of those things that they do (for this very reason!) and you can always spot the foreigner because theirs will be the only suitcase(s) which aren't wrapped.

I suppose it's an expensive lesson for you to have learnt, and definitely keep pursuing it. Also emphasise about the padlock as well - the fact they had to force entry should speak for something.

Good luck! :-)

Hi Kay

Sorry you've learnt this the hard way, but as you know, you should never put money/cc etc in your cuitcase if it is going out of your sight for more than a few seconds

I can only suggest that you prusue this via the airline itself, going atraight to the top of command. I think you should certainly have some comback on your damaged luggage but you have, at best, zero chance of getting any of the stolen money back I'm afraid

I've just looked on the web pages for Wizzair and it does quite clearly state, and I quote:
Articles not accepted in checked baggage:

* cash, securities
* jewellery, precious metal, precious and semi-precious stones
And then : If the checked baggage contains any of the items listed above, Wizz Air will not be held responsible for any loss, destruction, delay or damage to such items.

Thanks for your reply...really they should put that on the documentation you receive when book the tickets right ?

How many people check the websites for the small print T&C  before they go on each holiday ?

I have pusued the matter with the airline and obviously they have said what stated.

I guess they know that the staff working at the other end are not exactly trustworthy so therefore they have protected themselves from any claims.

I am so annoyed about that you would expect once you check in at least people would not go through your personal stuff...if the case got damage, lost etc that is normal but when it was forced entry by using tools and their so stupid as they put the padlock back in the suitcase too.  The police were not that helpful too they had this dont care attitude.  I think my holiday days are over as each one seems to be getting worse everytime all i seem to be is coming back and writing letters and complaints for one thing or another lol if there is anyone willing to do this for me that would be great :o ) lol

Hi again =)

Without wishig to split hairs, the piece that I found wasn't hidden at all. I'm notoriously bad at finding things but that was easily found. Maybe they expect you to have read through it? Possibly unreasonable in their assumption though. Did you book online?
I suspect that more and more people are reading through small print - I certainly read through things I book online.

I think it would be daft to not holiday again. This has only happened to you once, why would you think it will happen again? Use the experience, no matter how good or bad, and learn from it, don't let one bad holiday ruin the rest for you, please

good luck
