Do you plan your life or just go with the flow with what ever turns up? Have you changed direction out of the blue?

I have written this question to hopefully generate some comments. Consequently I am not going to comment directly on my own philosophy which has changed.

Don't think I specifically plan.  I always wanted to be a teacher from ages 3 to 23 or thereabouts.  In the end I did admin/management instead.

I had no plans to get married or not get married so didn't until I was 35.

I had no plans to have to have or not have childrten so had DD when I was 41.

I didn't plan to work in the area I work in but I've been here for 25 years!

In between, I worked hard, had fun, met lots of different people - some I'm still in touch with, some I'm not,  earned money, saved money. wasted money.

So it looks as if I didn't plan anything but I'm happy with the way things have turned out!!

I know 2 people who planned their lives - one is now top in the field she loves and a millionaire having made her career decision at primary school.  Another is a success in her academic field.

Message: HI Moss, That was a really interesting post .I wonder if different personalities influence folk in wether they plan or not. I suppose lifes circumstances may often change our directions. I know that dh jobs and moves decided quite a few of changes in my life over the years.

Message: I suppose in my case, I had the freedom and ability to choose even if I didn't plan.  As a child my family were supportive of my choices (and my choices tied in with their ethics which helped) and as an adult I was usually on my own so free to do what I wanted but realistic enough to know what I could and couldn't do!

Hi,

Great question Anc.

I don't plan my life really but DH and I do have general goals we work towards. I would say the only part of my life that's planned to precision is my financial life. I think it links in with Moss' point that it's about choices - if the financials are sorted then it frees us up to look at different opportunities that might suggest themselves rather than be "forced" down one path as we have too many other responsibilities closing our choices down, if that makes sense.
