I have got a built in webcam on my Sony laptop.  It works fine one way but if my friend has hers on mine doesnt show, we have video call and I can see and hear her but she can only hear me, my webcam goes off as soon as hers loads. 

Can anyone shed any light on why this happens and whether there is a solution??

I would start by performing a windows update to see if new drivers are available, if not, then go to the Sony website for your laptop and seeing if new drivers are available for it. 

For make/model is your laptop?
