Hi Icepop,

Jingle's answer is exactly what I would have given myself - big congratulations to your daughter sounds like she is going to do great!!  As Jingle has said most people work whilst at uni to get them through - I did a part time degree alongside a full time job and kids so I can understand that it can be really tough to do both, and she's probably going to be shattered, but it's all worth it in the end!!!

Hopefully the student finance funding comes through quickly for her too!

Hi,

THanks for the replies.

My daughter started on the course last week and is loving it so far!

Her fees and loan were approved but she hasnt received anything yet as the site says the payments are blocked? She took her letter confirming her fees and loan to the college today and they scanned it.

Hopefully something will happen now?!

She didnt get as much maintenance loan as we had hoped for. This was because we didnt go for the means tested grant because they wanted last years figures from April 2008. Well, in April last year my husband was earning good money but was made redundant in May 2009 and decided to take early retirement due to health reasons.... he has Huntingtons Disease and so now he is only getting a pension which is about a quarter of what he was getting before!

Next year when they base the figures on this years earnings we will try for the grant etc.

This year will be tough going tho financially. We are selling our house and downsizing as we cannot afford to stay in our current house as my fulltime wages and my husband's pension nowhere near covers our outgoings!

My daughter asked her biologicaL dad to help her but, as predicted, he said no......

Oh well, it will be worth it if she gets the degree and a job she loves!

Thanks for your advice,

Love

Icepop xx
