Hi,

I've just started an ironing business a month ago as I want to stay at home to see my son (now 20 mths) grow up and besides I cant afford childcare.  I already have a couple of 'regulars', have put business cards around my local town (N'ards), posted on freebie advertising sites and sent out flyers.  I have now ran out of ideas on how else I can get business.

I would love to hear from anyone who can advise me please.

Gilly

Hi Gilly

Firstly well done for trying to start your own business!  I don't have any professional advice for you but I do know that you can get a free line ad in the yellow pages and online at yell.com.

Also consider posting on specific interest websites advertising your services (providing it's not against their policy) an example site would be netmums as I know they have a dedicated section on their website for businesses advertising services that could be helpful to mums.

Hope this helps and please feel free to continue posting to let us know how you are getting on!

Hi, thanks for your good wishes for my business.  I have already posted on netmums Belfast and N.Ireland sites as well as handing out business cards etc.

I will take a look for other sites that may allow me to advertise.

Will keep in touch...

Hi,

Advertise for free in supermarkets, yellow pages, village notice boards, local school, village hall etc.

I know a lady that takes in ironing and is kept quite busy.   She irons for a lot of the teachers in our village school as they are out working all day, every day.   The same lady is also a dinner lady for one hour a day and a photographer on the maternity ward at our city hospital - photographing all the newborns (no qualifications needed for any of the three jobs).

Dozey.

Good idea for advertising in the schools - just have to wait until they open again in September.  I've already done the supermarkets and shopping centres.  Fingers crossed they will get some interest!
