Hi, I am looking for part time work to supplement my income if I can so I can go back to work less hours after this baby.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience of any genuine data entry type jobs you can do from home to fit around family life and, if so, what you can honestly expect to earn from them?

I have seen a few on the web which ask for money up front which always makes me suspect foul play.

Are there any real ones out there or can anyone suggest anything else for me?  I need to earn at least £300 a month but don't really want to do the usual children's books/homewares/beauty parties etc as my circle of friends already have contacts for these products.  I've also tried Avon before but was earning pittance (about £30 a month).

Thanks very much

H xx

Hello and welcome to the board!

I don't know of any specific data entry jobs but I wondered if you had considered home based call centre work?

It is usually part time and often also has overtime if you need extra cash. It pays at least £6.00 per hour if not more. You also don't need a separate phone line but should be aware that your phone will be engaged the whole time you are working.

Hope this helps!

Hi Jen,

Thank you for your reply and welcome.

I would be willing to try anything within reason to supplement my income.  Do you know of any companies that do the home based call centre work or have any more information at all please?

Thank you

Love H xx

Hi again

I know of two companies that do home call centre work- Arise and Teletech.

I have very little knowledge of Arise other than you are treated as self employed and have to register as a limited company before they will consider giving you any work.

I worked for teletech and found them to be fine. You are an official employee and sent all your equipment etc. free of charge. They give you a good induction and I had no problems regarding pay. There are also some additional employee benefits such as healthcare. I'm afraid I can't recommend them as such or offer any other opinions as it could be seen as advertising for them! I can't post a link either but if you google them you will see their website.

Hope this helps!

There is quite a lot of genuine data entry jobs if you look at the freelance market.  I've done a few in the past.  They tend to be where companies are setting up websites and they need to put all their product range online.  I did one data entry job for a local carpet company, inputting their ranges of beds, furniture, carpets and rugs into their website for them.  I had a login to their website and literally just typed up the name, description and price from the catalogues they provided me with.

I've found that websites can need two types of data entry jobs doing:

input their products

compile lists for them, researching the information online and producing it in Excel format

Here are some freelance data entry jobs: http://jobsforhomeworkers.com/freelance-admin/data-entry-jobs-freelance-admin/freelance-data-entry-jobs

I just keep an eye out and apply for the jobs I can do, there's usually something.  Over time, people will just keep using you and so you end up with a handful of people who will always come to you to do their data entry work because they've used you before and trusted  you - and - I find once they've used you for one thing they will offer other work too in the future.

Good luck!
