will, start again, hit something and lost me post grrrrr

I will probably come across as a grumpy old woman in this post....sorry in advance.

For reasons I will not go into now, my firm is putting us through NVQs

These will be in business administration.

I am 53 years old and have worked in offices since I was 16, had a few years off while my children were small. Since then have taken wordprocessing exams, ecdl, and a city & guilds in IT. Have been in this job for a year, do not use all the skills I have learnt but hey its a job.

Am I really wrong in not wanting to be assessed on something I have done all my working life? I did say I didn't want to do it but apparently it isn't an option not to.

We had our induction today and had a list of things to tick re what we do, ie everyday, sometimes, never. A lot of the stuff I had to tick as never because I don't do it in my position, BUT I can do it, and have done in the past.

So what I want to know is, is it a good thing to do an NVQ based on the job you are doing now?

Would like to hear from others that have done this NVQ and any other input.

Thanks

Trex xxx

Hi Trexi:

How did NVQ work out and what did you decide to do?  I have no experience with one at all, but did they tell you why they wanted to do an assessement at this date, rather than when you were hired?

Love Lisa xx
